The honest pros, cons, and cost trade-offs of going frameless in a Southwest Florida bathroom.
Frameless shower doors are the most-requested upgrade we install, and for good reason — but they aren't the right call for every bathroom. Here's a straight answer before you spend the money.
What you actually get
A frameless enclosure uses thick (typically 3/8") tempered glass held by minimal hardware instead of bulky metal framing. The result is a clean, open look that makes even a small Naples bathroom feel larger and brighter.
- More light — nothing breaks up the line of sight
- Easier cleaning — no metal channels for grime and mildew to hide in
- Higher resale appeal — buyers read frameless glass as a premium finish
The trade-offs to know
Frameless costs more than framed because the glass is thicker and the measuring has to be exact. There's also a little more water management to think about — a good installer plans the slope and seals so you don't get drips.
Our take
In humid SWFL bathrooms, the easy-clean factor alone wins a lot of homeowners over. If budget is tight, a semi-frameless option splits the difference nicely.
